San Antonio is the seventh largest city per capita in the United States, and the second largest in Texas and Southern United States. It’s visited by about 32 million tourists a year. The city's deep history is contrasted with its rapid growth over the past few decades, currently homes to four Fortune 500 companies and the South Texas Medical Center, the only medical research and care provider in the South Texas region.
Notable attractions include the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, the Alamo Bowl, Marriage Island, and five 8th-century Spanish frontier missions, including The Alamo and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park. Commercial entertainment includes Six Flags Fiesta Texas, SeaWorld, and Morgan's Wonderland amusement parks. It is home to the five-time NBA champions the San Antonio Spurs, and hosts Fiesta the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the largest events in the city (hosting nearly 2 million visitors each year.)
One of the biggest parties in the country is the annual Fiesta San Antonio Festival. It’s a 10-day festival that was started in 1891 to honor the heroes of the Alamo & the Battle of San Jacinto with the Battle of Flowers Parade. It was such a success that more events were planned, and it eventually became what it is today. The Battle of Flowers is the only parade run & planned completely by women. It’s the second parade in size nationally only to the Tournament of Roses parade. Grab some cascarones and get ready to party! Viva Fiesta!
San Antonio is also Military City USA, taking great pride in celebrating and honoring our servicemen and women. We have many military bases such as Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base, Randolph Air Force Base, Camp Bullis, Camp Stanley as well as BAMC. San Antonio is a wonderful place to retire, and many veterans call SA home. It is also a great place to raise a family with excellent schools and SA offers a lot of activities for children like the Do Seum Children’s Museum and the various amusement parks located around town. San Antonio is considered a big city with a small-town feel.
